POF / PCS Industry Applications

Plastic Optical Fiber applications have traditionally been over very short distances and low data rates, and used 1 mm core step index fiber at 650 nm. Operation using green (520 nm) and blue (470 nm) light is commencing, and suitable meter calibrations are optionally available. This class of applications require special testers due to their unique wavelength and optical characteristics.

New classes of graded index POF have core diameters of under 200u, and use standard wavelengths such as 850 and 1300 nm. Please refer to our usual LAN section for instruments suitable for these new types of fiber.

Plastic Clad Silica fiber applications usually use 200u core diameter and 850 nm light, and so are covered in our usual LAN section .
