Ribbon Fiber Optical Power Meter & Connector Options
Oct 08
To accommodate MPO / MP / MTP ribbon fiber connectors
with up to 24 fibers, We have modified our XL series large area detector
instruments, and introduced new connector adaptors. This makes
Kingfisher Optical Power Meters the only available field solution for
field portable power and loss measurement using these connectors.

Connector End face Video Inspection Scope
Oct 08
Dirty connectors are the number one cause of problems in
fiber optic systems. Kingfisher International's new KI
6620 Video Fiber Inspection Scope is a convenient tool for
inspecting and recording the condition of both mated and unmated fiber
optic connectors. The scope can be used on it's own, or with a computer,
and so provides just the right level of convenient flexibility for most
users.
USB interface upgrade & new
technology InGaAs detectors
Sept 08
Kingfisher International's KI 7000 series of light
sources, power meters and loss test sets have all been upgraded to a USB
computer interface, improved InGaAs detectors, and revised keypad
operation. This "C" series upgrade keeps our instruments in line with
laptop computer trends, which all have a USB interface, but may not have
a traditional RS232 interface. The
new technology InGaAs detector
upgrade means that this single solution is now optimal for both
multimode and single mode testing.
Pocket Fiber Meter Release
Aug 08
Kingfisher International's inexpensive new
Pocket Fiber Meter is an
inexpensive Optical Power Meter small enough to fit easily into your
shirt pocket, and yet is a fully specified and accurate meter with a
host of useful features. It easily passes a 2 meter drop test, and is
dust and moisture resistant. The 9 wavelength calibrations are fully
traceable with 2% accuracy, and the unit is delivered with 3
interchangeable optical connector adaptors. This instrument is most
suited to users who perform a modest amount of testing, so it is very
easy to use.
KITS™ 4.12 Software Release
July 08
One of the most expensive aspects of testing fiber
installations, is the process of capturing and reporting on field
acceptance testing. A big help here is achieved with the latest
KITS™
software for capturing and reporting loss testing, which has recently
completed a major re-write. Compatibility with typical computer
environments has been greatly improved, and it is now compatible with
all currently used versions of Microsoft Windows & Microsoft Office
across 37 languages. It has greatly improved functionality, and features
a wizard to help users set up their testing, including standards
compliant options. It is easier than ever to
customise reports. Alternatively, a very easy "one button download"
instrument memory download feature has been added. With this new release, KITS™
continues to be the industry's best software solution.
Test Report Customisation Service
June 08
Kingfisher can now customise
KITS™ reports
to meet the exact needs of your customers, so you can move your fiber
acceptance data directly into the required report with no labor cost or
risk of damaging the data. This service is inexpensive and can easily
pay for itself on medium sized jobs. All we need from you is a suitably
formatted Excel spreadsheet. Alternatively, if you have the time and are
competent with a computer, you could do this yourself. Please contact
our sales staff. Kingfisher Optical Calibration Laboratory Passes
Re-Accreditation
June 08
Kingfisher's Optical Calibration Laboratory
is unique in our sector of the industry, in actually being an externally
accredited traceable laboratory. We recently passed a major external
re-accreditation audit by NATA, which involved a full scientific audit
of our management, staff, procedures and equipment. While doing this
audit, we also expanded our range
of accredited calibration services. In combination with the excellent design of our
equipment, this laboratory means we can offer the most accurate and
traceable calibrations in the industry, at modest cost to our customers.
Our capability includes traceable calibrations from 400 to 1650 nm.
Kingfisher Passes external QA audit
May 08
Kingfisher recently passed a major ISO9001 periodic re-assessment with
flying colours. No big thing perhaps, but then we think we make some of
the most reliable and practical instruments you can buy, with a high
level of customer satisfaction. Our annual instrument failure rate is
currently around 0.5% a year, many times better than the industry average,
and we do try to respond to customer issues and requests.
New Instrument Test Kits
April 08
Our all-new range of
instrument test
kits is one of the most comprehensive in the industry. These
convenient kits provide the test gear needed to fault find, clean,
inspect and certify a fiber installation. The two styles of case are
both rugged, compact and comfortable to use, and securely house some of the best
equipment you can get. The range of kits and additional options means
you can match your needs. Some of the "large" kits fully comply with current
LAN testing standards.
Standards Compliant Multimode Sources
March 08
Anyone who was done loss testing on multimode systems,
will know that it can hard to achieve consistent results, resulting in
wasted time and reduced confidence. Help is now at hand since all
Kingfisher multimode LED test sources
and loss test sets now feature
the industry's 1st practical solution to providing a uniform modal
distribution of light in the fiber core, which results in greatly improved
measurement repeatability when
performing multimode loss testing. Previously available solutions have
been hand-selected and expensive. This solution is correct by design,
and and can economically mass produced, so it is provided as standard at no extra
cost to our customers.
Customer Instrument QA Service
February 08
Kingfisher is now offering a customer QA service where we put your
instrument through our full manufacturing QA check, and then issue a
formal Service Inspection Report. This is cheaper than a re-calibration,
and is an inexpensive way of implementing a practical asset management
program, to ensure that your instruments continue to perform to
specification. Please contact our sales staff.
POF Testers
February 08
Specifically designed to test 1 mm plastic optical
fiber, the TK 014
test kit incorporates a power meter and light source to test loss and
power at 650 nm. The source has a tight spectral specification to match
the narrow 650 nm POF transmission window, and the meter is specifically
designed to capture the divergent light from these large core fibers.
The instruments are fitted with robust metal SMA connectors, and are
supplied with an SMA test lead that the user can easily adapt to their
particular needs.
New Support Offices in USA and
Europe
January 08
New Applications Support offices in the
UK and
USA have been
established, to improve our presence in these markets. Our new staff in
these offices have extensive industry experience, and will be please to
help with any queries you may have. We also have new calibration and
instrument repair capability in the
USA.
Wavelength Selective Power Meter for FTTx / PON Testing
December 07
New wavelength
selective power meters are ideal for PON testing, where there are
usually data signals at multiple wavelengths. So a normal optical power
meter isn't much use in a PON, . since it can't tell if a data signal
one wavelength has vanished. This inexpensive solution is typically used
to determine the power levels at 1490 and 1550 nm. Two versions
are available, to cover a range of cost and test targets.
Mandrel Wraps for Testing Multimode Fiber
November 07
We have introduced two standards compliant
mandrels for use on testing
commonly available multimode fiber. These are easier to apply than other
available mandrels, and help improve the professional appearance of your
equipment. Mandrels are commonly required by test standards, but in
practice they are helpful for everyone, since they help improve the
repeatability and stability of loss measurements on multimode systems.
What they do not do, is create a standardised modal distribution in the
fiber core. To achieve this, see our new Standards Compliant Multimode
source. These mandrels are now standard accessories with our multimode
light sources and loss test sets.
